We are switching medications. Topamax did not provide control of Kate's seizures. We started her on her new medication, Trileptal, on Saturday. She is still on phenobarbital.
We are slowly weaning her off the Topamax over the next week. Upon the seizure nurse's request, we have also stopped giving her Tranxene. This is both to avoid having 4 medications at once, as well as to be able to see how the Trileptal works. As a result, Kate's seizures have significantly increased to over 20 per day. We are contacting the seizure nurse to see if it is safe to give Kate her Tranxene again so we can regain some control.
Let's hope Trileptal works. Phenobarbital, Keppra, Topamax, Tranxene, Trileptal - this is trial and error thing is getting very tiresome. What hurts her brain more... the seizures or the meds?
Sorry. I'm getting punchy.
