Waiting and Weaning

We're in the process of weaning Kate off breastfeeding in preparation for the Ketogenic diet starting (hopefully Dec 15th).

It has been a struggle getting Kate to eat formula from a bottle. We've been feeding her bottles with 1/2 breast milk and 1/2 formula to get her used to the taste, with some success. She pretty much goes on a hunger strike each day when we try and feed her the bottle. With Kelly, she usually eats every 2 hours. However, with the bottle, we're usually only successful (partially) after 3-4 hours. We're up to about 3 bottle feedings a day, increasing by 1 per day every couple days. Wish us luck!

Kate has her 6 month 'well-baby' checkup this afternoon. She will get the next set of immunizations. She'll also be weighed... I won't be surprised if she's lost a little weight (but one can hope not!).

On a frustrating note, Kate's seizure frequency has dramatically increased since my last post. She is having 30-50+ per day, and they are nearly all localized to her legs. They also have started to bother her every once in a while (for a few seconds following the seizure). We have tried giving her Tranxene to reduce the frequency, but it does nothing. At this point, we're just trying to hold out until we start the diet.

Hope everyone had a good Turkey Day.

You're in my prayers that this diet will help Kate's seizures. I know how difficult it is to wean a baby when they're used to breastfeeding...guess it's the comfort thing. Be patient, Kate'll come around! Love, Aunt MaryAnn
