Still Struggling in ICU

It was a long night in the ICU.

Kate was not a happy camper most of the night. She finally fell asleep around 4am. She is still having seizures, even though she is on a number of anti-siezure meds now. Very distressing. She is pretty drugged up now. Each new med seems to help for a period, but the seizures come back. Every once in a while she loses color still.

As I write this they are giving her a loading dose of phenobarbitol. Their hope is that this works, since it has before. However, there is now a concern that the additional med could cause her to stop breathing on her own. Basically, many of these meds have a seditive effect, and in combination, can effect the breathing reflex. There is already a breathing machine next to her crib standing by just in case. We really hope she won't need it.

It looks like we're here for a few days. The docs are meeting outside the room right now discussing the plan for the day. We'll see what happens.

Please keep all of us in your thoughts. We really need it. Thanks.

Hey Jaeson, I'm sorry to hear you guys are back down there..but maybe you will figure out what's going on with little Kate finally. I read your blog every morning and think of you guys all the time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you get some answers soon and her seizures will stop.
