She lost the fight...

Kate fought hard for just over a year. She will be sorely missed by so many people. Thanks for visiting!

Back to herself!

Kate is acting like herself. She seems to have her energy back and is playing and interacting normally. She had a good night, waking only when she spit her pacifier out (which was more frequent than I would have liked :) ).

On the medical front, they have been doing some testing on her urine and blood to investigate some concerns they have about her kidney function. The tests were showing that her kidneys were working harder than normal, so they adjusted her fluids last night. The docs said it seemed to help.

She also is slightly anemic right now. Her hemoglobin levels have been low, but stable. Hopefully her body recovers on its own, otherwise they might need to do a blood transfusion. The hope is that her need for supplemental oxygen is caused by the anemia.

Lastly, they are scheduling an MRI for today sometime. We agree with the doctors that it is a good idea to have this done to make sure there isn't anything we're missing. There still isn't a solid explanation for the fontanel issue she's had (why it was bulging 2 weeks ago and took a week for the meningitis to present).

It looks like her antibiotic treatment will be a 2 week course. Once all of the other concerns are addressed (blood tests, MRI, etc), we'll likely be able to return to Santa Rosa (either the hospital or home). We hope to be setting a plan soon.

Have a good day!
